Utility unveils LA’s largest solar installation

Nicholas Nhede
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has unveiled the largest rooftop solar installation project in Sun Valley. The 2.6MW solar project was implemented in partnership with PermaCity Construction Corp, Xebec and Stronghold Engineering.

Part of the Deef-in-Tariff or Clean LA Solar programme, the project will make approximately 1,000 homes carbon neutral and reduce carbon emissions by 4.3 million pounds.

Commercial customers will make use of the soalr panels to generate their own energy as well as sell excess capacity to meet the entire region's energy demand.

The project also supports jobs and fuels private investment in addition to expanding both the utility and region's renewable energy portfolio.

“This interconnection represents what a green energy economy and a Green New Deal can be,” said Los Angeles City Councilwoman Nury Martinez.

“We are delighted our commitment to in-basin jobs for veterans and low-income households has found such a welcome home in the FiT program and the generous support of local Unions,” says PermaCity CEO Jonathan Port, who also serves on the Los Angeles Work Investment Board (WiB).

“Los Angeles was named the No. 1 Solar City in America for 2017 and we’re very pleased to make this latest FiT project possible. It’s projects like this that help make L.A. a national leader in clean energy,” said Martin L. Adams, CEO of LADWP.
